Happy New Year

Another year down. This is a time of reflection and looking back on what we have done and accomplished in 2011. In March Rocky Mountain Shito-Ryu Karate-Do will have been a part of the Canon City community for five years. Five years! That’s not an awfully long time. Yet in that time we, as a dojo, have made differences in the lives of many people and our community. We have grown, not only in size but as a family. Our bonds have become strong and we have grown closer in the friendship of karate and our dojo family.

It is also a time to set new goals for 2012. It never ceases to amaze me what this time of the year does to people. Many go around and make resolutions on the things to fix in their lives. They look forward to improving themselves in the coming year. There is nothing wrong with that. It’s great to set goals. The trick is accomplishing the goals you set. We’re not going to set goals. We are, however, going to accomplish many things in the upcoming year.

• We are going to kick off the Be A STAR program in Fremont County
• Continue with our Women’s Self-Defense classes free of charge to the community.
• Continue to support the Fremont County Boys and Girls Club
• Continue to support the Family Crisis Center
• Continue to make a difference in our community

There are many things my black belts and I are looking forward to initiating into our training programs at the dojo for the students.
The one thing that we will do in 2012 is continue striving to be the best traditional martial arts school in this area. We will proudly keep representing the Pacific Karate-Do Institute, the International Shito-Ryu Karate-Do Kai, and Seito Shito-Ryu Karate. In a county with approximately 27,000 people and at least 6 martial arts studios we shall do our very best to set an example of what true and traditional Japanese karate really is and really means.

In a word, we will keep growing and keep working to serve our community and our fellow citizens. We will keep striving to make our world a better place. We will continue to set an example and make positive changes in the lives of our students and all we come in contact with.
